
JOEL MOKYR
Robert H. Strotz Professor of Arts and Sciences, Northwestern University
Dr. Mokyr was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for “identifying the prerequisites for sustained growth through technological progress” in 2025. He is a leading economic historian whose work reshaped understanding of technological change, knowledge, and long-run economic growth, authoring influential books such as The Lever of Riches and A Culture of Growth. He has served in major editorial and professional roles, including senior editor of the Journal of Economic History and president of multiple economic associations.
Dr. Mokyr holds a Ph.D. in economics from Yale University, and B.A. in economics and history from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
