Management Director, Startup Capital Ventures

Tom is Managing Director at Startup Capital Ventures x SBI Fund (www.scv-sbi.com), a Menlo Park, California-based venture capital firm focused on early stage software and deep tech investments.  Previously, Tom was Managing Director and co-founder of PacRim Venture Partners (www.pacrimpartners.com), a Menlo Park-based venture capital firm. Tom started his career at Bank of America.

In his more than thirty-five year career as a venture capitalist, Tom has invested in early stage IT, cleantech and healthcare/life science companies. He has served on the boards of directors of public companies Hanwha Q CELLS (NASDAQ: HQCL, then acquired fully by Hanwha), UTStarcom (NASDAQ: UTSI) and White Electronic Designs (NASDAQ: WEDC, then acquired by Microsemi) as well as numerous private companies. Tom’s current and past investments include SunPower (NASDAQ: SPWR), UTStarcom (NASDAQ: UTSI), White Electronic Designs (NASDAQ: WEDC), LifeCell (NASDAQ: LIFC, then acquired by Kinetic Concepts), SyStemix (NASDAQ: STMX, then acquired by Novartis), Physiometrix (NASDAQ: PHYX, then acquired by Hospira), U-Systems (acquired by Hologic), CafePress (NASDAQ: PRSS), FastSoft (acquired by Akamai) and HealthCrowd (acquired by mPulse).

Tom graduated from Northwestern University with B.A. and MBA degrees. He taught the New Venture Finance course at San Francisco State University’s MBA school, and he is Chairman of the Advisory Board and a regular volunteer panelist for the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce’s Job Forum.
