Karl Gao is Vice President and Global General Counsel, member of Investment Committee and Compliance Committee of NIO, a pioneer in global EV industry. Karl once served as executive president, management committee member, COO, CHO and General Counsel in several industry and investment groups focusing on globalization, and worked in two leading international law firms’ China and Singapore offices. Karl has tremendous experience in EV industry, cross-border M&A, global operation and management, company turnaround as well as investment fund management.

Karl is admitted in New York as a lawyer, and is adjunct professor of Shanghai University of Law and Politics, research fellow in M&A and Restructure Research Center of University of International Business and Economics, arbitrator of Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Senior Board Member of China Cybersecurity and Information Law Society, Board Member of Beijing Transportation Law Society. He is also awarded as Chambers 2023 Most Influential General Counsel in Great China Area. 

Karl received his LLB, Master Degree in Law and Economics and Juris Doctor Degree from Nankai University, the University of Manchester and Northwestern University. He also studies EV technology course in Delft University of Technology and received EMBA degree from INSEAD.
